We are ScanCom, based in Copenhagen with production operations across Vietnam, Indonesia and Brasil. In Vietnam, our factories are located in both of Binh Duong and Tien Giang provinces. Our wide range products including Wood, Aluminum, Plastic, DuraBoard® materials. At ScanCom, we don't only strive to deliver iconic and innovative designs, but also to create and produce in materials that enables us to push the industry standards for sustainability and manufacturing excellence.  Now, we are seeking R&D Manager who is driving for material development process to support for our business development.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES & AUTHORITIES:

 

1.    Research & Development:

ü Lead the R&D efforts for searching new materials, colors for outdoor furniture products (including plastic products) with a focus on materials such as Wood (Eucalyptus, Acacia,), Metal (Aluminum, Steel …), and Plastic (Injection Molding, Extrusion …), Composites Materials….

ü Leading R&D Team to research and develop new surface coatings system and painting techniques for outdoor furniture to enhance durability and aesthetics.

ü Investigate and identify sustainable alternatives to traditional wood, including using wood by-products, sustainable materials, and other innovative materials.

ü Cooperating with other departments like Design, TD, PI, and PPD to drive product innovation through materials optimization and improving manufacturing processes to meet market demands and sustainability standards requirements.

 

2.    Material Sourcing & Testing:

ü Cooperate with the Compliance team and Test center conduct material testing to ensure performance and quality standards as required for each new product.

ü Collaborate with supply chain department to source and evaluate new potential materials in products development.

ü Support Procurement and QA in developing partnerships with vendors for specialized materials, including recycled materials or substitutes for wood, to reduce environmental impact.

ü Coordinate Suppliers and Production for trial of new materials / processes.
Review the production work instructions and ensure it meets the requirements in TDS/MSDS, process scheme of supplier

 

3.    Product Design & Prototype Development:

Collaborate with design teams and Product implementation (PI) to create prototypes for new furniture concepts that relate to new Materials / Coatings.

 

4.    Quality Control & Sustainability:

ü Together with QA, QA incoming and Procurement in Oversee quality control measures for new materials and finished products.

ü Focus on sustainability and eco-friendly practices, including reducing waste and exploring alternative materials for product longevity.

 

QUALIFICATION & REQUIREMENT:

 

Qualification:

ü Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Material Engineering, or a related field from a reputable institution such as the University of Science and Technology or Bach Khoa University

ü Familiar with working environment with certification including ISO 9001 , ISO 14000 , ISO 45000 …

 

Experience:

ü Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in MATERIAL research and development, with at least 5 years in a managerial or equivalent leadership role in Manufacturing that furniture, construction, or materials industries are most favorable

ü Proven track record in leading material development and product innovation for outdoor furniture?

 

Skills:

ü Expertise in materials like wood, aluminum, plastic, steel, and surface coating techniques for outdoor furniture.

ü Knowledge of alternative materials, including wood-based composites and sustainable solutions.

ü Strong proficiency in product testing and material evaluation.

ü Fluent in English, with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in all four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

ü Other soft skills like Presentation Skills, Communication Skills, Persuasion Skills, Problem solving skills, making decision skills.

ü Familiarity with environmental standards and regulations related to materials and products.
